The young woman standing on my left is
Soraya, a keratoconus patient who recently visited our practice from
Mexico City. Soraya was diagnosed with keratoconus about 4 years ago. Before visiting us 2 years ago, Soraya struggled with blurred vision. 2 years ago we fit Soraya with GVR Scleral lenses
which have allowed her to see clearly and comfortably. Last week Soraya
visited us for her annual eye and vision examination. Both of her
corneas have remained stable as has her vision.
A small change in the scleral lens design was made to improve Soraya’s
comfort. As the years go by I expect Soraya’s corneas to remain stable.
However, as with everything in life, vision can change. If and when this
takes place we will make the necessary changes to her scleral lens
prescription to make sure that her eyes and vision are clear and that
she remains comfortable with her lenses. Standing to Soraya’s left is
her mother. What a joy it is for me to see the smile on their faces.
