The woman in the blue shirt in the 3 photos below is Dr. Fidan Guliyeva, an ophthalmologist from Baku, Azerbaijan. Dr. Guliyeva traveled to South Florida and to our office to learn the latest developments in scleral lenses technology. The 2nd photo shows us taking an impression of the front surface of Dr. Guliyeva’s right eye. From this impression we are able to make an EyePrintPro Scleral lenses that replicates every feature of the front surface of her eye onto the back surface of this unique scleral lens using 3-D printing technology.

This technology works extremely well in patients who have lost quality vision due to advanced keratoconus, corneal transplant surgery complications resulting from all types of refractive surgeries and a host of other debilitating ocular conditions. In the 3rd photo, Dr. Guliyeva is demonstrating the final impression taken of the front surface of her right eye. In the first photo standing on the left is our student extern Julie Kim and on the right our other student extern Samy Bensbaa. At the present time scleral lens technology does not exist in Azerbaijan, a country of over 10 million people. Dr. Guliyeva will be bring this technology back to her country in the very near future.
